It's all geek to me

 

These are the slides from my ‘lightning talk’ at JISC dev8D on how developers in the JISC community can communicate with a broad, non-technical audience. Given the time constraints of a packed and very interesting event, my presentation was neccessarily a little light. Whilst most of the points I make are common sense, being asked to talk about this at dev8D implies that there is still something of a communication problem between the developers of a system and it’s end-users, so it doesn’t hurt to remind ourselves of the obvious occassionally.

    Thought-provoking stuff….relates to Cathy Moore’s ‘webinar’ ‘thing’ I’ve just watched – one of the interesting issues that came out of that was the impirtnace of inter-disciplinary teams in developing e-learning material. Most people say that they are part of a multi-skilled/facted team but few of them really understand what each other do – for example does thegraphic designer really know what teh teacher is trying to show and does the educational designer understand why they chose that image? So it’s silos of expertise that are good but coudl be better….hohum
