Who writes this stuff?

Steve Boneham

I’m an educational technologist at the JISC service Netskills. My role is to explore new and emergent technologies and help the education community make effective use of them. This involves research, development and training in web technologies like WordPress, screencasting, web conferencing, social media, web design and e-Learning.

Before joining Netskills in 2000, I was a researcher in virology at Nottingham University where I worked on developing vaccines against HIV. Between experiments I became increasingly interested in e-learning and how we could use it to support our students. That led to a project to develop a set of modules in laboratory techniques that taught me a lot about technology, but even more about how people learn. That eventually led me to Netskills where I hope I can now use that background to help others with their use of technology in education.

What’s the point of this blog?

This is my personal blog, so the opinions expressed here represent my own views and not necessarily those of my employer. Comments on posts obviously represent the opinion of whoever left them.

I post about the things I do at work, like a new technology I’ve used, some training resources I’ve developed, a conference I’ve been to or just something I’ve seen that interests me. The main aim of blogging about this stuff is to clarify my thoughts and help me understand them better. If you can help me with that, please comment.

I tend not to post that often, once or twice a month typically, but I hope what I do post will be of interest.
